Important Regulations and Trip Notes

Cans & Bottles- Non-burnable food and beverage containers are not permitted in the BWCAW or Quetico.

Quotas & Permits- Both the BWCAW and Quetico operate under a quota system. Only a specific number of parties are permitted to enter the canoe country each day at each entry point. Upon receipt of your outfitting reservation we will apply for your Travel Permit. If you are unsure of your route or entry point, just fill out in the information on your reservation form indicating the type of trip you want to take. We will choose your entry point for you.

Fly-in Canoe Trips- Fly-in trips are subject to an 8% Ontario sales tax and a 7% Canada goods & service tax on the services provided by the Canadian firm.

Reservation Fees and User Fees

The US Forest Service charges a Permit Reservation Fee of $12.00 and a User Fee of $16.00 per person, per trip ($8.00 for children under the age of 18.) To make a Permit Reservation for you, we must provide the Forest Service with your credit card number to which the $12.00 reservation fee and $32.00 in user fees will be charged. The balance (if any) will be charged upon your arrival in Ely. We charge a $15.00 service charge for processing your BWCAW reservation.

Quetico Park charges a camping fee of $22.00 per person per night ($8.00 per person per night for children under the age of 17.) You will pay your Canadian fees at the border when you enter Quetico Park. Dogs are permitted in both the BWCAW and Quetico, but you must have a current rabies certificate with you when entering Canada. We charge a $25.00 service charge for processing your Quetico permit.

Canada no longer maintains an Immigration and Customs officer at the Prairie Portage station, so you will have to fill out a Remote Area Border Crossing Permit application (RABC) if you will be paddling into Quetico park from Moose Lake. We will send your RABC application form with your canoe trip confirmation. This form should be filled out 4-6 weeks in advance of your canoe trip. Fly-in parties are not affected by this as you will be making an intermediate stop at Canada Immigration on your inbound flight.

Maximum Party Size (Per Campsite)- There is a limit of nine (9) persons on a campsite in both the BWCAW and Quetico Park. Larger parties will require additional permits and must be packed as separate groups. For purposes of reservations and correspondence, please use only one name as the party leader and contact person- even though we will need an additional name or names if additional permits are required.
